It's Been Awhile

I'm seeing that it has been around 10 years since I have posted on here, but I just want to show how proud I am of the ladies in my life:

My mother has been through so much since she was 2 years old, in 1946, when her father died. After that, her mother tried to give my mother up for adoption 7 times. She then got her L.P.N.

In 1967, as a Combat Medic Trainer in the Women's Army Corp., she met someone who would verbally, and at times physically, abuse her for 19 years.

It took her 17 years to complete her bachelor's degree because my father wouldn't let her study in his house.

After their divorce, she was able to complete two master's degrees in psychology. See how far you can go without toxic people in your life?

Then, there is my sister Ronda. She was born with physical and neurological disorders. Our father and her Senior Guidance Counselor at East Noble High School said she wouldn't be able to go to college. Ronda has a master's in psychology.

Most importantly, my wife, who still supports her family today.

She’s endured a lot. We were apart for four years, and I took out past frustrations on her. Still, she stood by me through counseling. Now, she’s about to graduate from nursing school at Ivy Tech.

A father was complaining that the volume was too low and had to use the speakerphone, so the child remove the scratch resistant film.

Monitoring Personal Success

Lately, I have been a junky, getting my "fix" as it were, to monitoring my emotions, future success, and goals for my family. I am extremely anal retentive about my daily routine. When one modifies tasks (for the better), it builds confidence. Check out my daily checklist and tell me what you think.

If you want to know more about "The Science of Self-Confidence", feel free to comment as well.

Mental Acuity vs. Self-Esteem

I have recently been teaching SAT to various students in the Philippines of whom are from Korea. Their ability to learn English SAT is a struggle for them, but is also in the same sense, extremely inspiring for me.

I have a student who we will call “Calvin”. He is from Korea and is finding learning the SAT very draining. I have been noticing some emotional issues with him. He has not shown any aggression of any sorts, but I can tell from his body language that he feels “stupid”.

I have been “experimenting”with him (in a manner of speaking). Keep in mind the students do not know what “level” the drills are:

I gave him a few Critical Reading exercises. The first one was a Level 3 drill with which he had to read 4 paragraphs and then answer seven (7) questions; he got all of the answers wrong.

The next passage was a Level 4 drill. When he was done, I verbally asked him what the answers were. Even though some of the answer choices were incorrect, I resounded with around 80% of them being correct. His attitude changed within a matter of minutes.

For the final passage, being a Level 5, I told him to underline the words in the paragraphs that he didn’t understand. After doing so, I asked him if those same words are in the answer choices. He responded with, “No”. After he had answered the questions, he actually got 75% of the answer choices correct.

After my research in neuroplasticity, most of what we learn has to do with our feeling of self-worth and “knowing” we are synaptically limitless.

Personal and Business Achievement

To boost your business mind to make your business dreams a reality, I recommend you to break your bad habits by following this link from "Mindtools" as well as the "17 Principles of Personal Achievement" by Napoleon Hill:

Napoleon Hill's 17 Principles of Personal Achievement
Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.
Lesson 1: Definiteness of Purpose
Definiteness of purpose is the starting point of all achievement. Without a purpose and a plan, people drift aimlessly through life.
Lesson 2: Mastermind Alliance
The Mastermind principle consists of an alliance of two or more minds working in perfect harmony for the attainment of a common definite objective. Success does not come without the cooperation of others.
Lesson 3: Applied Faith
Faith is a state of mind through which your aims, desires, plans and purposes may be translated into their physical or financial equivalent.
Lesson 4: Going the Extra Mile
Going the extra mile is the action of rendering more and better service than that for which you are presently paid. When you go the extra mile, the Law of Compensation comes into play.
Lesson 5: Pleasing Personality
Personality is the sum total of one’s mental, spiritual and physical traits and habits that distinguish one from all others. It is the factor that determines whether one is liked or disliked by others.
Lesson 6: Personal Initiative
Personal initiative is the power that inspires the completion of that which one begins. It is the power that starts all action. No person is free until he learns to do his own thinking and gains the courage to act on his own.
Lesson 7: Positive Mental Attitude
Positive mental attitude is the right mental attitude in all circumstances. Success attracts more success while failure attracts more failure.
Lesson 8: Enthusiasm
Enthusiasm is faith in action. It is the intense emotion known as burning desire. It comes from within, although it radiates outwardly in the expression of one’s voice and countenance.
Lesson 9: Self-Discipline
Self-discipline begins with the mastery of thought. If you do not control your thoughts, you cannot control your needs. Self-discipline calls for a balancing of the emotions of your heart with the reasoning faculty of your head.
Lesson 10: Accurate Thinking
The power of thought is the most dangerous or the most beneficial power available to man, depending on how it is used.
Lesson 11: Controlled Attention
Controlled attention leads to mastery in any type of human endeavor, because it enables one to focus the powers of his mind upon the attainment of a definite objective and to keep it so directed at will.
Lesson 12: Teamwork
Teamwork is harmonious cooperation that is willing, voluntary and free. Whenever the spirit of teamwork is the dominating influence in business or industry, success is inevitable. Harmonious cooperation is a priceless asset that you can acquire in proportion to your giving.
Lesson 13: Adversity & Defeat
Individual success usually is in exact proportion of the scope of the defeat the individual has experienced and mastered. Many so-called failures represent only a temporary defeat that may prove to be a blessing in disguise.
Lesson 14: Creative Vision
Creative vision is developed by the free and fearless use of one’s imagination. It is not a miraculous quality with which one is gifted or is not gifted at birth.
Lesson 15: Health
Sound health begins with a sound health consciousness, just as financial success begins with a prosperity consciousness.
Lesson 16: Budgeting Time & Money
Time and money are precious resources, and few people striving for success ever believe they possess either one in excess.
Lesson 17: Habits
Developing and establishing positive habits leads to peace of mind, health and financial security. You are where you are because of your established habits and thoughts and deeds.

Re-Directing Thought

I have learned a lot since I have been in Dubai about thought processes per culture. Some go by "book smarts" some go by internal thought. Internal thought is the key that makes things hum if you will. Since most of the culture here within the UAE isn't really Arabic but Indian, it gives a harmonious feel about how business runs from the outside. It all has to do with adapting to oneself rather than the surroundings. I have found out that I don't necessarily need to adapt to their lifestyle in order to get respect but adapt to myself.
A lot can be seen how they are from the inside in this part of the world. On the Western side, you are given the first 10 seconds of the first impression by how you look on the outside. Since this part of the world has language and cultural barriers, it isn't necessarily how you look by what you wear but how you look on the inside if they want to do business.
Since this is the case, in order to survive, it is a must to re-think yourself and re-invent yourself. As Yoda would say in the Star Wars saga, "Unlearn what you have learned."

Breaking the Rope for Success

I am reminded of a story that my father once told behind the pulpit in the summer of 1984:
My children and I were going through the Toledo Zoo and spotted an enormous African elephant. The only thing keeping this huge animal of God from going outside of its area was a thin rope around the ankle. So, I asked the Zookeeper how is this tiny rope around the rear ankle able to constrain this magnificent creature?
The Zookeeper replied, “He has been here since he was a baby and has had the same size of rope around his ankle since he was 2 weeks old. He tried and tried to break it during that time but couldn’t. He simply gave up. Even to this day, 30 years later, he still thinks he can’t break the rope.”
This past week I broke my rope.

Boomerang

A friend of mine gave me a boomerang for my birthday. He told me it was a symbol and to figure out the meaning. I said to him,"Whatever I send out it comes back to me." WRONG!

He explained that the Aborigines in Australia used it as a hunting tool. They used it with precision. They would throw it up in the air to knock out the birds, kill them, and eat them. Now, even if they missed, the boomerang would come back to them, but if they didn't miss then they would get the food they needed PLUS the boomerang even if it didn't come back to them.

So, no matter if I keep missing my target, I can still keep trying and eventually the precision will come into play. There are going to be times in life we miss, but as long as we are still alive, we will succeed.

Cool. yeah?

I was supposed to sell my car to someone tomorrow but he hasn't called me back. The funds from the car were supposed to toward the flight there...Its not working out as planned.

Ugghhh. I need help and prayer!
